Amer Fort Light and Sound Show

Jaipur, the capital city of the royal state of Rajasthan is a vibrant amalgamation of art and culture. There lies an extensive history behind the place and stories about the very exquisite mahals. One such fort is Amber Fort or the Amer Fort, located on a hill, built by Raja Man Singh I in 1592 AD and was expanded and renovated by Raja Jai Singh I.

The Amer Fort

The Amer Fort has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2013. Amer was once known as Dhundar, ruled by the Kachhwahas from the 11th to the 16th century. The fort is famous for its artistic style that is a mixture of both Hindu and Mughal design elements. Amer fort dates back to the 15th century and has been home to 28 kings of the Kachwaha dynasty in the past.

Jaipur Amer Fort

The outstanding Amer Fort in Jaipur is the epitome of creativity and art, personifying the high-spirited Rajputana culture. At the entrance of the Amer Fort is the Jaleb Chowk. It was here that the soldiers of the king assembled and paraded around. Suraj Pol (Sun Gate) and Chand Pol (Moon Gate) lead to the four courtyards, halls and gardens in the fort.

It is not located exactly in Jaipur but in a town called Amer which is 11km (6.8mi) away from Jaipur, hence the name Amer Fort. The fort is influenced by the Rajput architecture that has large ramparts, series of gates and a cobbled path, constructed mainly of red sandstone and marble which was popular during those times.

The music is composed by singers like Ustad Sultan khan and Shubha Mudgal and the show is scripted by the very famous Gulzar and narrated in the most distinctive voice of Bollywood by Amitabh Bachchan. He narrates various stories and legends of Rajput kings, their traditions and their grand lifestyle throughout the show.

Timings, Tickets Fee & Tips

The Amer Fort light and sound show starts every night at the foot of the fort, Kesar Kyari Garden situated on Maota Lake. During winters from October to February, the show starts at 6:30 pm in English and 7:30 pm in Hindi, from March to April it is 7:00 pm and 8:00 pm, from May to September it is 7:30 pm and 8:30 pm respectively. The show last 52 minutes totally. It is recommended for people going to see the show to reach at least 25 minutes before the show starts.

The fee for Amer Fort light and sound show is very affordable at the price of INR 295 per person including GST. It is free for children below the age of 7.

It is extremely cold during the show, as you are seated outside with water surrounding you, so it is advisable for you to dress accordingly. Photography and videography are prohibited during the show. Also, it is better to reach the show 25 minutes before it starts to be seated properly and to enjoy the rest of the show.
