After arriving at Cotonou International Airport, you will be transferred to the hotel and assisted for the check-in. You will have free time to take a good rest to deal with the jet lag. For most visitors, Cotonou is a unique tourist destination with rich and various treasures.

In the morning, you will head for Abomey, the capital city of the Kingdom of Dahomey. This area used to be known as “Slave Coast” in the history, which was in parallel with the “Ivory Coast” and the “Gold Coast”. Upon arrival, you are going to visit the History Museum of Abomey, which has been listed as UNESCOs World Heritage since 1985. You will then head down to Allada for a visit. Allada is the birthplace of Toussaint Louverture’s parents. Toussaint Louverture is the leader of Haitian Revolution and also the greatest man in Haiti’s history. In Allada, a sculpture was built in memory of Toussaint. After the sightseeing, you will return to Cotonou.

This morning, you will leave for Porto-Novo, where Benin’s National Assembly locates and also one of the oldest cities in the country. The city still retains rich old African life style and features. After arriving, you will visit the Ethnographic Museum, which is famous for the collection of Gelede Masks. Afterwards, you will also pay a visit to the famous Homme Palace. On the way back to Cotonou in the afternoon, you will stop by Ganvie, reputed as the African Venice. Ganvie is the biggest village among the ones which have been ever discovered around Lake Nokoue. Now more than 30,000 inhabitants are residing in this over water village, which makes Benin an essential site.

Today, you will have a full day sightseeing tour in Ouidah. Ouidah was once the largest slave export port along the Gulf of Guinea. The European colonist had been trading slaves for more than 200 years and over 20,000 slaves had been sold every year during late 17th century. Upon arrival, you will visit the Sacred Forest, History Museum of Ouidah and Python Temple. The Museum of Ouidah displays a wealth of ancient artifacts and relevant books which are related to the history and culture of this place. With this valuable evidence, it is easy for visitors to get an intimate understanding of the regions culture and history. Python Temple is rather a highlight of the tour to Ouidah. After visiting all these spots, you will go back to Cotonou.

You will have free time before setting off to the airport. You can either visit the art center or buy some souvenirs at Dantopka Market, one of the biggest markets in West Africa. Then you will transfer to the airport and take a flight leaving from Benin.
