El Salvador Tours

Day 1: Entry San Salvador

Take the flight to El Salvador. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel. Afternoon San Salvador City Tour. San Salvador is known for its major landmarks such the Metropolitan Cathedral, Monument to the Savior of the World, Monument to Liberty and the National Theatre of El Salvador. San Salvador is the second most populous city in Central American and home to one half of the country’s wealth. You may want to add the panoramic night city tour to experience the lively restaurants and bars of San Salvador.

Day 2: San Salvador - Mayan Ruins Tour

Full day tour to the archeological site of Joya de Ceren, a UNESCO heritage site. Joya de Ceren was a pre-Columbian Mayan village, known as the “Pompeii of the Americas,” because was covered by hot ashes after an eruption of a nearby volcano like the ancient Roman ruins. We continue to the pre-Hispanic ruins of San Andres and its ceremonial center. San Andres had contacts throughout present day Central America, and traded with Peten, Teotihuacan and Copan. We will then tour Santa Ana and admire its beautiful theater and the turrets of the neo-gothic cathedral. Santa Ana is the second largest city in El Salvador and major center for the country’s coffee industry. Finally, we will visit Chalchuapa, for a short tour of the Pre-Columbian Maya archeological site in Tazumal. Overnight San Salvador.

Day 3: San Salvador - Apaneca

Full day tour beginning with the colorful town of Ataco. We will visit a coffee factory to learn how coffee is made, from growing and harvesting to the delicious final product. Afternoon at leisure to enjoy the beautiful city of Ataco and admire its charms. We will continue to Nahuizalco, a small town with strong indigenous roots, known for its wicker and tule works and famous for its evening market dating from ancient times.

Day 4: Apaneca - San Salvador

Volcanoes National Park boasts impressive views of Izalco and Santa Ana’s volcanoes, and Coatepeque Lake. Izalco Volcano erupted almost continuously from 1770 to 1958 and was known as the “Lighthouse of the Pacific.” Santa Ana Volcano is the highest volcano in El Salvador and is 2,381 meters above sea level. Afternoon at leisure to enjoy Coatepeque Lake. Return to San Salvador.

Day 5: Exit San Salvador

Transfer to the airport to take the flight back home. Day 5Suchitoto - San Salvador San Salvador is our destination today, arriving about lunchtime. Mid-afternoon we visit the Devils Gate on the outskirts of the city and from there to the Mayan Indian village of Panchimalco. After dark we move on to enjoy Pupusas overlooking the lights of the city in the valley below.

Day 1: Entry San Salvador Beach

Arrive in El Salvador and transfer to your Beachside Hotel at La Playa el Sunzal for some rest and relaxation after your long flight.

Day 2: San Salvador Beach

To start your first full-day in style, we have a morning visit to the nearby fishing port of La Libertad. Here you can feel the atmosphere of the fish market and the bustle of this small town before returning to your hotel to enjoy the pool and beach and perhaps a meal in a beachside taverna.

Day 3: San Salvador Beach - Suchitoto

After breakfast we leave the beach for Suchitoto, a small town to the north nestled beside a large reservoir. In the afternoon we explore the reservoir in one of the local co-operative’s boats to see the various water birds and enjoy the magnificent scenery and finishing the day with a typical Salvadoran festive meal.

Day 4: Suchitoto

Today is left free for you to do as you wish. We can arrange for guides to escort you on a pony trek or walk in the surrounding countryside, hire a boat to explore the parts of the reservoir not visited yesterday or just wander around the town and meet the people.

Day 5: Suchitoto

Another free day for your own exploration.

Day 6: San Salvador

Into the city to visit the beautiful churches, the tomb of Ramiro, (a priest who was killed in the civil war and is now cited for sainthood) the busy marketplace, Museum Arbol de Dios and then a craft market which has a wide variety of items of Latin American arts and crafts. If this hasn’t tired you out we can stop off at the modern Shopping Mall to complete the day.

Day 7: San Salvador

Today we are leaving free for you to explore the city by yourself if you wish or there is an optional daytrip to La Planta visiting Mayan ruins and an incredible active volcano.

Day 8: San Salvador - Santa Anna - Juayua

Leave the capital for the elegant provincial town of Santa Anna, which has some impressive colonial style architecture and then on to the project that we are sponsoring. Here you can interact with the villagers who will have provided lunch for us. They will also give a demonstration of pupusa making and invite you to participate before leaving for Juayua and its weekly food festival.

Day 9: Juayua

After breakfast we have a visit to a Coffee co-operative where you can see how the raw coffee berries are processed into the coffee we drink by way of a guided tour of the facility. The afternoon can be used for visiting local ruins, spectacular waterfalls, guided treks and an evening visit to the Parrot Tree, a roosting site of hundreds of parrots.

Day 10: uayua - El Imposible

This morning we leave Juayua for El Imposible National Park stopping on the way at an artists shop and studio where local, hand-crafted objects may be purchased. After arrival at El Imposible and checking into your lodge there is enough time available for a short, guided walk through the stunning cloud forest to end your day on a real high!

Day 11: El Imposible

You have the choice today of spending the whole day exploring the cloud forest with an expert local guide, or alternatively, visiting the sister park Les Volcanoes for a climb to, and around, the rim of the volcano.

Day 12: El Imposible - Bara de Santiago

After a morning of free-time we head off to the Bara de Santiago where we will explore, by boat, the Mangrove forest and its extensive bird life where you can spot Fish Eagles, Kingfishers and Herons. We then return to the adjoining beach and experience a breathtaking Pacific sunset before ending the day with a barbeque or picnic on the beach.

Day 13: Bara de Santiago

Today we transfer to our final hotel to relax, enjoy the beach and pool and hopefully reflect on an enjoyable and unique holiday.

Day 14: Exit Bara de Santiago

Leave for the Airport and our return flight home, arriving the following morning.
