The best time to visit Toliara is the dry season from April to November, when nearly all weather conditions are favorable for traveling around: 

(1) The rainfall is low, with at most 4 rainy days per month on average. You can exclude the several rainy days from your traveling periods according to the weather forecast. Even though you fail to do so, the light rain will hardly influence your travel plan. 
(2) The average high temperature is no more than 30 degrees Celsius (86 degrees Fahrenheit), much lower than that of the rainy season. You will feel cozy but not hot during your trip, especially from May to October, when the average maximum temperature is 26 - 29℃ (79 - 84℉) and the average minimum temperature is 14 - 19℃ (57 - 66℉).
(3) The sea temperature is warm enough to go swimming or do water sports. 
(4) The sunshine length is still long at around 10 hours per day, but the sunlight is not as intense as that of the other time.

Sunny Dry Season of Toliara

In fact, the temperature and rainfall are not very high all year round, so though the rainy season is not as favorable for traveling around as the dry season, it is still an OK time to visit Toliara, when you also don’t need to worry that you will be stuck indoors by heavy rain or hot weather.

As a reminder, you should avoid visiting Toliara in July and August, the peak season when attractions have more visitors and the hotels and tickets are more expensive than usual.

You are recommended to travel to Toliara from December to March. During this period, most destinations of Madagascar are in the rainy season with unstable climate, and the whole country, including Toliara, is in the slack season and sees only a few visitors. Different from most other destinations, Toliara in the rainy season does not receive quite much rainfall, which is at most 111 mm monthly on average, making it possible for you to travel around.

1. For Beaches

With beautiful beaches and large scale of coral reefs, Toliara is a great place to go sunbathing, swimming, surfing, and snorkeling. The best time to experience all of these activities is during the sun-shining hours of the dry season from April to November, excluding the 12:00 - 14:00 period. This is because the weather during these months is sunny and clear, the underwater visibility is high, and the apparent temperature and sea temperature are cozily warm. However, the UV rays are too strong during the hours of 12:00 - 14:00, and long-term exposure to the sunlight may lead to sunburn.

2. For Reserves/ National Parks

(1) If you want to spot cute lemurs in reserves or national parks, you are recommended to travel to Toliara in the dry season from April to November. Lemurs can be seen all year round, however, in the dry season, the stable and mild weather and good road conditions are more convenient and favorable for your hiking and exploration. Moreover, October is the breeding season for lemurs, when you have an opportunity to see small newborn lemurs.

(2) If you want to admire Madagascar’s marvelous endemic plants in their lush state in Arboretum d’Antsokay or Reniala Reserve, or see the rare radiated tortoises and spider tortoises in Tsimanampetsotsa National Park or Reniala Reserve, you are advised to arrange your 2025 Toliara trip in the rainy season from December to March. During this period, the plants are flourishing with lush green leaves and the radiated tortoises and spider tortoises are quite active. However, since there are some rainy days, you’d better check the weather forecast in advance.

(3) Tsimanampetsotsa National Park is home to more than 100 species of birds. If you want to see as many species of them as possible, you are recommended to go to the Park from September to November, when they are most active. For those who want to see flamingos, it is recommended that you go the Park between April and November, the time when they reside here.
