Nepal and Nepalese Visa

Nepal visa for Free

Under the following circumstances, the tourists could be granted a Gratis Visa or Visa for free:

1. Children under the age of 10 years (an exception to this rule is for US citizens)
2. For 30 days, citizens from the SAARC countries (except Afghanistan) could be granted Gratis Visa. An Afghan national is entitled to Gratis Visa on Arrival only on the approval of the Department of Immigration (DOI).
3. Non Residential Nepali Citizens holding NRN cards issued by Nepalese diplomatic missions
4. Chinese Citizens

What Are the Steps for Getting the Visa?

After you have landed at the airport or have reached the border check post, you will be provided with an Arrival Card. Fill the form correctly, with correct information like your name and date of birth. Also mention, your reason for the arrival and address of the hotel you are staying in.

Next, submit the form along with the payment (preferably cash) according to your tenure of stay.

If the provided information is correct, then the immigration officer would grant you the Nepal visa.

Important Customs Regulations

On arrival and before departure, your baggage well is X-rayed. This is done to prevent the import and export of illegal drugs or antiques.

1. Customs will stop you from bringing in Nepali currency. Additionally, only Indian or Nepal citizens are permitted to bring in Indian currency.

2. The customs has not set a limit on bringing in foreign currency in the form of cash or travelers check. However, the amount taken out during departure must not go beyond the amount brought inside the country.

3. You must declare the cash or checks brought inside the country if the amount exceeds USD 2000, or more.

Nepal Visa Extension

For Nepal Visa extensions, you have to visit the immigration offices in either Kathmandu or Pokhara. The extension costs around US$30, payable in cash only for tenure of fifteen days. Moreover, a fee of 2 USD would be added to the existing amount for a period after that.

For Nepal visa extension of 30 days, payment of USD 50 is to be made. For facilitating a multiple-entry visa, you have to add an extra USD 20. If your Nepal trip is for more than two months, then you should opt for a 90-day visa on arrival, instead of a 60-day visa plus an extension scheme. This would save you some money.

For visa extension, you have to provide your passport, one photo, the fee, and a correctly filled application form. Usually, the Visa extension is provided by the same day, although faster Nepal visa extension schemes are also available.

Visitors can extend the visa up to 150 days in a calendar year. But for such an extension, you might have to provide a copy of your air ticket.
