Today we will take a leisurely suburban tour of the Yehliu Geopark, Jiufen and Pingxi towns that are not far from Taipei.
Heading to the north coast of Taiwan, you will reach the Yehliu Geological Park in about 1 hour. Due to the natural action of wave erosion and weathering, the coast here forms a unique geological landscape. Many rock formations have been named based on the imagination of their shapes, such as Sea Candles, fairy shoes, Elephant Rock, and ice cream Rock. The most famous of these is the 4,000-year-old Queen's head, so named because one side of it is thought to resemble a woman's head.
After that, drive to Jiufen, once a bustling remote gold mining town but now a popular tourist destination known for its maze of alleys, quaint historic buildings and teahouses. Stroll around this mountain town and don't forget to sample local snacks like ginger tea, fish ball soup, sweet bean reed, taro circles, etc.
Then we'll continue our drive to the quaint village of Shifen in Pingxi, which is famous not only for its food, customs and ancient tracks, but also for its sky lanterns. You'll start with a short visit to the Shimen Waterfall, then walk along the old street, and at last experience the sky lanterns. Sky lanterns used to be the railway signals, but now visitors can buy lanterns, write their wishes on them and release them to hope their wishes to come true.
After the tour finishes, we will drive you back to your hotel in Taipei.
