As a must-see tourist resort, Male’s landmark reveals the history of Maldives. Friday Mosque built with coral rocks is the most iconic architecture in Male. It was built in 1656, and is the oldest mosque throughout this country. New Islam center with a golden roof is the most conspicuous building in Male Island. The mosque can accommodate 5,000 people. It does not only reflect the pious beliefs of Muslims, but also a symbol of prosperity of Maldives. The surroundings, such as tall coconut trees, flourishing Magnolia denudate, and exuberant tropical flowers and trees, indicate the boom of the local religious belief. Maldives Museum, located in Sultan Park in the center of Male City, was rebuilt from Sultan palace. It is one building with three floors. The museum displays many objects from Sultan Dynasty, including thrones, crowns, old cannons, swords and spears, and the weapons captured from invaders. Besides, there are ancient exquisite and well-painted handicrafts, such as stone carvings, wood carvings, and lacquer carvings. All these show that Maldives is an old and civilized nation.
