Vietnam Train Ticket Types
Vietnam trains contain 5 kind of seat classes, which are hard seat, soft seat, hard sleeper, soft sleeper and VIP Berth. Passengers can choose seat classes based on their routes and budget. Soft seat and soft sleeper are two popular seat classes for train travelers in Vietnam.
Vietnam Train Ticket Types on Different Seat Classes
1. Hard Seat (Ngòi Cúng)
Hard seat is only available on Reunification Express trains, which is made by wood. There are 20 rows in one hard seat carriage and 2 chairs in one row. Every 2 passengers share 1 chair. All chairs are window seats for a good sightseeing. One pair of chairs are face to face and they share a small table in the middle. Besides, the Vietnam railway also offers luggage racks above chairs on both sides of carriage. Passengers could put their luggage on racks or under chairs.
2. Soft Seat (Ngòi Mèm)
Soft seat is still available on Reunification Express trains, which is leather seat equipped with folding table on behind. There are 16 rows in one carriage and 4 seats in one row. The railway sets sockets on the wall, which can be used directly without converter. What’s more, free WIFI is connectable in soft seat carriages.3. Hard Sleeper (Năm Cúng)
There are 7 hard sleeper cabins in one carriage and 6 berths in each hard sleeper cabin. All cabins have door, window, curtain, night lamp and small table. Three berths are set on each sides, which are upper berth, middle berth and lower berth. Middle berth can be folded if no one uses it. Pillow and blanket are provided on each berth. Luggage can be put under lower berth.

4. Soft Sleeper (Năm Mèm)
There are also 7 soft sleeper cabins in one carriage and 4 berths in each soft sleeper cabin. All cabins have door, window, curtain, night lamp and small table. Two berths are set on each sides, which are upper berth and lower berth. There is a folding pedal on the wall, you could unfold the pedal and climb to upper berth. Luggage can be put under lower berth. Pillow and blanket are provided on each berth. Power outlet is available under the small table. Compared with hard sleeper, soft sleeper is more comfortable and clean. All of the tourist trains offer Soft Sleepers.

5. VIP Berth
VIP berths are only available on a few tourist trains. Two lower berths in one cabin can bring passengers more space and privacy. Generally, pillows and blankets in VIP berth will be more soft and comfortable. The tour company also offer snacks, drinks, tissues and fruits in VIP cabin.Vietnam Train Ticket Types
E-ticket
Vietnam railway accepts both E-ticket and paper ticket. If you buy ticket online with an agency, you will receive a confirmation, including departure station, arrival station, train number, departure date, seat number, passenger’s information and QR code. You can keep it on your smart phone or you can print it out by yourself. This confirmation can be presented to train staff directly when you board the train. The train staff will check your E-ticket and passport.
Paper Ticket
You can also collect paper ticket through automatic machine at railway station if you book ticket online in advance. You can input the booking ID and then your paper ticket will be printed out automatically. Paper ticket and passport should be presented to train staff before you board your train.
