Lake Kawaguchi Weather

Lake Kawaguchi belongs to the temperate continental climate zone. It has four clear seasons: the humid, hot and rainy summer from June to August, the chilly winter with much snow from December to next January, and the mild spring from March to May and autumn from September to November.

Its yearly average temperature is only about 12℃ (53.6℉), 5 degrees Celsius (41 degrees Fahrenheit) lower than that in nearby Tokyo. Besides, surrounded by mountains, Lake Kawaguchi has a huge temperature difference between day and night. The weather is also changeable here, especially in summer when it may rain suddenly and temperature decreases obviously. Additionally, the vast water area leads to high humidity - over 70% averagely.

Hottest month: August; the highest temperature can exceed 32 ℃ (89.6℉)
Coldest month: January; the lowest temperature can drop below minus 15 degrees Celsius (5℉)
Months with much rain: June - October, with about 20 rainy days on average each month
Months with much snow: January - March, with over 10 snowy days on average each month
Sunniest months: December and January, each with 15 sunny days on average
Month with strongest UV index: July, with average UV index of 6

Middle April - May and early to mid-November have the most comfortable weather in a year. During the time, the temperature is around 10 - 20℃ (50 - 68℉), not too cold or hot; and the rainfall is not too much. The classic snowcapped Mount Fuji can still been seen in these months when it is sunny. In Addition, you can catch the best appreciation time of Sakura blossoms and red leaves in April and November respectively.
