Beijing - Pyongyang Trains: K27 / K28
On every Monday and Thursday, train K27 is available from Beijing to Pyongyang, requiring the travel time of about 25 hours. Tips
1. It is quite difficult to buy train tickets in either China or Korea if you can’t speak any Chinese and Korea. 3. When you enter the territory of North Korea, the customs staff may check your luggage very strictly. Just bring things that you need onboard and your passport because the prohibited goods like knives and something like that can cause you some troubles in going to North Korea smoothly.
History
On December 16th, 1953, the leaders of China and North Korea’s railway corporation signed the agreement of operating trains running between Beijing and Pyongyang. China provided the trains and services. On May 21st, 1954, train 13/ 14 was officially available between China and North Korea.On June 11th, 1959, train 13/ 14 was renumbered as train 27/ 28 and the train was updated as rapid class train, running at a higher speed than before. On November 23rd, 1982, representatives of the railway corporation of China, North Korea, Mongolia and Russia went to Moscow to attend the conference concerning about the Beijing - Pyongyang trains, achieving the result of operating the trains by China and North Korea together.
On October 10th, 1983, North Korea Railway Corporation operated the first train running from Pyongyang to Beijing once a week. From April 1st, 1985 on, the international train ran 4 round trips every week. And on October 21st, 2000, train 27/ 28 was retitled as train K27/ K28.
