History

Combining the Gothic revival style of St Pancras Railway Station in Victoria Age and traditional styles of Indian architectures, Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus was built in 1887. It was designed by famous British architect Frederick William Stevens.

Firstly, it is named as Victoria Terminus to mark the 50th anniversary of Queen Victoria’s accession to the throne. Later, after India’s independence, it turned into Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus in 1996 to commemorate the national hero - Chhatrapati Shivaji. In 2004, the terminus became a member of world heritage sites. Now, it still serves passengers traveling by train in India.
