What to See inside Swaminarayan Akshardham Temple

The main building of the temple is made up of red sandstone and white marble. The main hall is located on 148 elephant statues with nine domes and 239 decorative columns. Inside the temple is a 3-meter-tall gilded statue and more than 2,000 Hindu god statues, with different deity. The columns are beautifully carved, the frescoes are colorful, the whole temple is gorgeous and elegant, and the fine religious art is embodied everywhere. The dome of Swaminarayan Akshardham Temple is exquisite, and is made up of nine large arched buildings. The details of such a large-scale sculpture are amazing. However, unlike the ancient Hindu monasteries, the stones were not hand-carved by artisans with tools, but by cutting equipment with modern technology. The introduction of modern tools completed the monastery, which would have taken 40 years to complete, in five years.

Many Hindu gods are carved around the walls of the main hall. The perimeter is divided into three corridors: the first floor is placed many statues of Hindu gods; the second has various 1:1 ratio of elephants statues and other delicate animal gods, of which there are 149 elephants, with a brief introduction of Hindu stories (similar to biblical stories); and the third is a 2km long, divided into the upper and lower two layers of the colonnades with 1152 exquisite stone pillars.

Tips:

1. Video cameras, mobile phones and other electronic products are prohibited in the temple, and security checks are very strict.
2. There are dress code requirements: Your top must cover the shoulders, chest, navel and upper arm, the lower body of clothing should be over the knee. If you do not meet the requirements, you can rent a sarong with a deposit of Rs100 and return it at the exit.
