Advanced Tips for Jaipur to Agra Road Trip
If you plan to go from idle to ideal traveler and are about to hit the Jaipur to Agra road trip soon then this article is for you. Agra and Jaipur are the two cities in the golden triangle of India. Third, being Delhi. There are thousands of travelers traveling between these cities daily for business or leisure purposes. The travel from Jaipur to Agra is enjoyable especially during winters when the landscape is lush green and the weather is pleasant for a long drive. This route has many Dhaba's (roadside eateries) on the highway, serving hot tasty food and a few restaurants too.
There are many modes of travel between these cities. The air route, train, and private buses or the state transport bus are plausible ways to travel between the cities. Added are of course the cab and private cars.
Jaipur to Agra Road Trip
If you are a passionate driver and would love to enjoy the journey, the road is the way. A road journey from Jaipur to Agra lasts 4 hours and 30 minutes covering around 240 kilometers (149 miles). Buses usually take a little more time than the private cabs or cars due to added pit stops. There are direct buses from Jaipur to Agra. Also, they are not so comfortable and do not allow detouring or sight-seeing along the way. NH21 connects Jaipur to Agra in a straight line. The route is via Dausa and Bharatpur. The route via Bandikui, on the other hand, is not much crowded and has a sparse number of restaurants, tea stalls, dhabas, and petrol bunks alongside. During night time it is mostly empty and hence not too safe.

Road Trip Tips
Keeping these tips in mind would help to prepare your travel and enjoy your Jaipur to Agra road trip:
1. First and foremost, keeping all the relevant RTO papers (driving license, vehicle registration certificate, vehicle insurance certificate, etc.) in two sets - one original and the other photocopy - is mandatory.
2. Winters are good times for the trip due to friendly weather and beautiful scenery along the highway. Else it is good to start early morning around 6-7 AM to enjoy good weather and empty roads.
3. If you are on roads during winters, especially in December or January, keep good warm clothing as it can get very cold and foggy too. It is good then to start late around 10 in the morning and reach before 8 in the evening.
4. Keep a lot of change with you as the route from Jaipur to Agra has toll collection booths.
5. It is advised to carry your food/snacks as there are not many options on the way. Also having the petrol tank full at the onset of the journey helps.

6. Fatehpur Sikri, Bharatpur Museum, Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary, Abhaneri Stepwell also called Chand Baori are some of the tourist places on the Jaipur to Agra road trip route. With little extra time on hands, these places can be covered.
7. Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary - Oct-March is the best time as a lot of migratory birds come here from all over the world for the breeding activity.
8. Chand Baori is a 2-hour detour excluding time spent at the Baori, so keeping some extra time to visit this helps keep the rest of the plan on track. If you plan to off-road to Deeg Palace, which is approximately 32 km (20 mi) from Bharatpur, then again, plan your time.
9. If you are interested in sightseeing on the way, then private cab/taxi and cars are the best options so you can de-route as per your choice.
10. The old route (via Bandikui) is not a very busy highway with decent road conditions.
11. There are few motels on the way should you plan a pit stop. However, the quality cannot be guaranteed. It is better to use the restrooms and get back in your car. Gangaur motel, Rajasthani motel, and RTDC Midway Mahwa at Dausa. Midway Mahwa has a cheap room facility along with restaurants serving Indian food and Rajasthani food. Stopping at any Dhabas or restaurant at night is not advised as it may get unsafe.

Other Transportations
FlightMany airbuses fly between Jaipur and Agra and cost approximately Rs. 1,300 depending upon the availability of seats and the time bookings are made. However, this is not a popular option as it costs more and takes approximately the same time to reach Agra including the check-in and check-out times.
Train
Rail journey is the most convenient as you do not have to stress on driving and can catch up on your sleep. Also, this is the cheapest option, ticket prices being approximately Rs.150–170 (subject to change as per the Indian Railways directives). More than 10 trains are plying on this route. The rail route is 228 km (142 mi) long and takes about 4 hours depending upon the train. Most of the trains have a pantry and serve food and snacks on-board.
