TOEI Kyoto Studio Park

Constructed by TOEI Company nearly 50 years ago, TOEI Kyoto Studio Park is Japan’s first and only park themed around historical dramas. It’s an all-in-one tourist spot to experience Japan from every possible aspect, from the Edo-period (1603 - 1868) vibe of streets seen in the dramas to Japanese anime worlds to ninja culture to interactive exciting programs to Japanese-style food. For more fun, you can also cosplay as ninja or geisha among other characters from Japanese culture while hanging around.

Enter the World of Edo-Era Historical Dramas

Ever interested in finding yourself amid the world of Japanese historical dramas? Visit Film Set Viewing Area then, see what the Edo-period (1603- 1868) Japan looks like on streets flanked by traditional wooden buildings, watch live shootings, and good luck encountering movie stars. Have yourself dressed up as your favorite movie character if you like!

For those into the history of Japanese cinema, stop by Japanese Movie Archives to find precious legacy left by the giants in Japan’s filmdom, including filming equipment and relevant documents. 

Immerse in Japanese Ninja Culture 

As you might be one of those who admire the spirit of Ninja and Samurai, which is part of Japan’s cultural tapestry, the Nakamuraza Theatre at the center of the park might interest you most, where you can feast your eyes on superb Ninja shows and learn some easy sword fighting skills for fun. 

You can also play as a ninja by wearing a rental set of costume, and go to the northern training center to throw shuriken or throwing stars, secret weapons of ninja. (Girls might particularly want to rent a kimono suit and try on it while hanging around.)

A Wonderland for Japanese Anime Fans

An Eva fan? At Evangelion Kyoto Base, you can find the giant upper body of EVA-01 humanoid mecha above the surface of the amber-colored LCL pool. It’s about 15 meters tall! You can either ride in the cabin to have a bird’s-eye view of Kyoto’s streetscape or stand on a palm of its hand for some cool photos.

A fan of Kamen Rider? Don’t miss the Kamen Ride EXPO at TOEI Anime Gallery, where you can find a gathering of all the riders from Showa and Heisei eras! Here, visitors can also get a panoramic insight of the history of TOEI animations. 

Spend Some Energy for Excitement

The park is also a paradise for energetic kids and adults! There are curiously piled-up walls to climb and conquer, 3D ninja mechanisms and traps to unravel and break through, and a ghost-haunted house to exhaust lots of courage, just to name a few.

Eat and Take Memories Home

For anyone feeling depleted of energy, restaurants here include Kiraku (きらく) for raman, Kaikatei (うどん開化亭) for all sorts of Udon noodles, and CHANBARA for western and Chinese cuisine. Some desert and coffee shops can also be found.

Besides, remember to bring home some mementos! Related products of Japanese historical dramas (such as shuriken), Edo-era costumes, sweets, figurines, among other limited TOEI specialties, can all be chosen as a witness to your TOEI journey.

How to Get There from Kyoto Station?

By bus:
Take Kyoto City Bus No. 75, get off at Uzumasa Eigamura-michi, and walk 5 minutes.

By train:
Take JR Sagano Line, get off at Hanazono Station, and walk 15 minutes.
