Osaka Station

Nestled near Umeda at Osaka's northern gateway, Osaka Station, also known as JR Osaka Station, stands as the largest in West Japan. As a pivotal transportation hub, it offers seamless connections to an extensive network of JR local and express trains, subway routes, and bus services, enabling travelers to reach downtown Osaka, its suburbs, and major cities like Kobe, Kyoto, Nara, and Tokyo with ease.

Moreover, Osaka Station, along with the adjacent North Gate Building and South Gate Building, comprises Osaka Station City, the largest integrated commercial complex in Western Japan, which not only boasts excellent transportation links but also caters to shopping and food enthusiasts.

Osaka Station Layout

Osaka Station is a five-story building. The main floors used for boarding trains at Osaka Station are as follows:

1st Floor: Ticketing & Tourist Center

Welcoming tourists and locals alike, this floor boasts ticket purchasing and checking services.  Four entrances—Midosuji, South, Central, and Sakurabashi—ensure easy access from all directions. Right beside the Central Ticket Office, the Travel Service Center OSAKA (8:00-20:00) offers English-speaking assistance to tourists, including services of railways, travel passes, currency exchange, luggage deposit and so on.

2nd Floor: JR Line Platforms

Dedicated to train travel, this floor hosts 11 JR line platforms where trains dock and passengers board or alight with ease.

3rd Floor: Connecting Bridge

Connecting the north and south, a bridge spans this floor, facilitating smooth transitions between different platforms for passengers.

B1 Floor: Subway Access

Subway riders will find platforms 21 to 24 here, offering direct access to the city's underground transit system.

Other Floors: Dining, Entertainment, & Offices

Explore the remaining floors for a diverse range of dining options, entertainment venues, and office spaces.

Platforms & Lines

From Osaka Station, you can quickly reach various destinations via JR trains. For instance, a short 15-minute local train ride costing just 170-190 yen will take you to Osaka Castle, Tsutenkaku Tower, or Universal Studios Japan. Alternatively, hop on a rapid train for a 30-minute ride to downtown Kyoto for 580 yen, Kobe for 420 yen, or Nara City in 50 minutes for 820 yen. 

Operating hours are generally from 5:00 AM to midnight, though there may be slight variations depending on the line.

Osaka Station Exits

Midōsuji Exit (East of the Station)

At both the North and South Exits of Midōsuji, exit first through the "Midōsuji Ticket Gate". From the ticket gate:

North Midōsuji Exit: It leads to the Midōsuji Line of the Osaka Metro, Hankyu Umeda Station (Chayamachi direction), and airport buses. Easily accessible are Hankyu Sannbangai Street, Osaka New Hankyu Hotel, Whity Umeda Underground Mall, and Yodobashi Camera Umeda Store.


South Midōsuji Exit: Connecting to the Midōsuji and Tanimachi Lines of the Osaka Metro, Hanshin Electric Railway, municipal buses, and taxis, its nearby popular destinations includes Daimaru Umeda Store, HEP five Ferris Wheel, UNIQLO Umeda Store, Whity Umeda Underground Mall, and Hankyu Department Store.

Central Exits (North & South):

North Central Exit: Connects to JR Highway Buses (Tokiwa Plaza direction) and leads to LUCUA, JR Osaka Mitsukoshi Isetan, Yodobashi Camera Umeda Store, Shin-Umeda City, and Grand Front Osaka.


South Central Exit: Provides access to the Midōsuji and Tanimachi Lines of the Osaka Metro, Hanshin Electric Railway Umeda, municipal buses, and airport buses (boarding at Osaka Hilton Hotel). Daimaru Umeda Store (South Gate Building B2~15F) is really close.



Sakurabashi Exit (West of the Station)

This exit offers direct access to the Yotsubashi Line of the Osaka Metro. Additionally, it is interconnected with the Central Exit within the ticket gates on the 2nd floor, facilitating easy movement between the two areas.


Liaison Bridge Exit (3F)

It is straightforward to reach the third floor of Hankyu Station from here. Also, you can directly connect to Daimaru Umeda Store, South Gate Building, North Gate Building, JR Osaka Mitsukoshi Isetan, LUCUA, and Grand Front Osaka.
