Ulaanbaatar to Moscow Train

Moscow serves as economic, political, and transportation center of Russia. Ulaanbaatar too, is considered the largest and most important city of Mongolia. Ulaanbaatar to Moscow Train is no doubt an indispensable bond between two countries.

Currently there are 2 pair of trains running between these two cities. Train 3 is originated from Beijing, China running once a week, after arriving at Ulaanbaatar on Thursday, it continues the journey to Moscow after a short break. Train 4 runs back from Moscow to Ulaanbaatar on each Tuesday. Train 5/6 also operates once a week only, it departs from Ulaanbaatar on each Friday and back from Moscow on each Wednesday.

Being a part of Trans-Siberian route, this rail line enjoys a high fame among fans of train travelers. Truly, it takes 4 to 5 days on the way, but efficiency is no longer a thing should be concerned once you are on the train. Mongolia – Russia Border Crossing

Since it is an international train across the border of Mongolia and Russia, customs and inspection process will be done at Sukhbaatar and Hauschki. Customs officers are always very careful about international trains, all luggage and each cabin will be searched seriously. Therefore, it could takes hours for this process. It is not allowed to take any photo during the customs and inspection process, if being caught, all your electric devises will be checked or even confiscated.

Which station to Use in Moscow?

As the capital city as well as the most popular city of Russia, Moscow is very well developed in rail service. Altogether, there are 8 railway stations in Moscow city which may lead to a great confusion for first time foreign travelers. Generally speaking, these stations serve different trains according to the running direction and train type. For the international trains between Russia and Mongolia mentioned above, they all arrive at/depart from Yaroslavsky Railway Station which can be considered one of the most crowded and busiest station in Moscow. 

The other 7 railway stations are: 
Leningradskiy Railway Station, serving trains to the north-west direction, Estonia, Finland and some long distance trains to St. Petersburg direction.

Kazansky Railway Station is very close to the city center and is the largest station by size. It serves directions to and from South, East as well as South-East.

Belorussky Railway Station mainly operates long-distance routes from western and northern direction and suburban trains.

Kievsky Railway Station mainly supports long-distance and electric trains for western and south-western directions

Paveletsky Railway Station serves Middle, Lower Volga and Caucasus area; Kursk Railway Station is a transit station running routes to northern and southern part of Russia and finally Rizhsky Railway Station which is now less frequently used. 

Travelers who will take a train departing from Moscow are highly recommended to double check the correct station to use to avoid trouble of being at a wrong station.
