Hanging Gardens is also known as Ferozeshah Mehta. Located at the top of Malabar Hill, Hanging Gardens is the highest point of the whole city. Due to its highest location, it is usually surrounded by clouds and it seems that Ferozeshah Mehta is hanging in the sky, therefore, local residents call it Hanging Gardens. From here, one can take everything of the Arabian Sea in a glance, and also appreciate various and exquisite bushes trimmed in different shapes. It is enjoyable for locals to walk around Hanging Gardens after dinner.           

A Garden Built Over a Reservoir in 1881

Hanging Gardens was built over the Mumbai’s largest drinking water reservoir in 1881 A.D. At the beginning, Hanging Gardens was built to protect the reservoir from the pollution of Tower of Silence, a nearby morgue where Zoroastrianism practice celestial burial rituals. In 1921, Hanging Gardens were renovated. With time going by, Hanging Gardens become a park serving local residents at present. With different kinds of flowers, it is a good place to relax and feel nature.

Animals-Shaped Gardening

One of the unique features of Hanging Gardens is that bushes are trimmed in different shapes, such as elephants, camels, birds, and so on. All of these gardening are vivid and exquisite. Animals-shaped bushes are favored and welcomed by children and also creates a heaven for those who enjoy taking photos.
 

Red Sandstone Bridge with Three Large Gates

There also exists a red sandstone bridge across the whole gardens with three large gates, which is consistent with the outer castle in style. Larges gates frame the beautiful scenery in the distance into several paintings. It is said that Hanging Gardens were the castle in the sky from Japanese animation.   
    

Building of Big Boots Shape

Inside Hanging Gardens lies one big boot, it is actually a building with the shape of a boot. Tourists can go upstairs, watch through the windows, actually the holes on the boot, and enjoy the gardens from a new perspective.       

Huge and Impressive Flower Clock

Flower Clock is also an interesting attraction in Hanging Gardens. The Hanging Garden can be reached from any corners of Mumbai. Facing Colaba, Hanging Gardens offer a breathtaking view of the whole city.

Full View of Marine Drive

Located at the top of Malabar Hill, Hanging Gardens of Mumbai is the best place to enjoy the full view of Marine Drive. Especially at sunset, tourists can feel cool breezes from the sea, if fortunately, one can also witness the Marine Drive dotted with lights, which is praised as “the queen’s necklace”.     

How to get to Hanging Gardens

Hanging Gardens are located in Malabar Hill district.
1. Passengers can take 103, 106 BEST bus to Malabar Hill station directly.

2. Passengers can take bus 41, 42, 80 LTD, 105, 106, or 108 to get to Kamla Nehru Park station, then walk north for about 5 minutes to get to Hanging Gardens.
