Sendai sees rising temperatures in June, with the early to middle period being warm mostly and the late month a bit hot. Rainy season starts in mid-June, when rainfall becomes frequent which inevitably causes a high humidity.

Temperature: Gradually Rising from Warm to Hot

On the whole, the temperature in Sendai in June is gradually rising. In the early and middle periods, it is comfortably warm most of the time during the day, with the maximum temperatures ranging from 18-26℃ (64-79℉); in the early mornings and evenings, you are also embraced by cozy air of around 14-20℃ (57-68℉).  Clothing: 

Warm early June allows you to wear light clothing. For the upper, a shirt plus a thin coat is enough; for the bottom, wearing a thin casual trousers or jeans will do. With the weather getting hot in the time ahead, you can wear summer suits; to name a few, a T-shirts together with light pants or shorts. Wearing breathable flat shoes is very practical, since they are suitable for long walk and don’t make your feet sweat. Suppose you plan to walk from the Sendai Museum to the Aoba Castle, which involves a long climb, wearing these shoes will be much more comfortable and will help dissipate heat quickly.  Coming to Sendai in June, you’d better not miss the beautiful hydrangeas. Starting in late June each year, hydrangeas unleash their allure, with Zuihoden and Shifukuji Temple being their prime stages. Flanking the approach to Zuihoden, the blossoms imbue the solemn buildings with a touch of summer colors. Shifukuji Temple, affectionately known as the “Hydrangea Temple” by locals, is even more captivating. Thousands of colorful hydrangeas bloom along the approach to the hall, creating a stunning contrast with the tranquility of the temple. Even bathed in a gentle drizzle, the blossoms’ infinite charm is undeniable.

 You may visit some indoor attractions such as the Sendai City Museum or the Sendai Uminomori Aquarium, when it’s raining. If the rainfall stops after a while, you can watch the Sendai Daikannon, the iconic giant statue of the city, around the places nearby. That would be a unique visual experience since it’s even more divine when it’s shrouded in the mist.
