1. Atomic Bomb Dome and Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park 

In hot July, you can choose to visit the Atomic Bomb Dome and Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park. There are plenty of trees, so you can seek for some shade and coolness during the visit. There are also indoor venues inside, so you can visit even on rainy days.

The Atomic Bomb Dome is one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Hiroshima, and was established to avoid the same tragedy and suffering. The building was built in 1915 and collapsed when the atomic bomb was dropped. The central dome is barely recognizable, and only a portion of the frame and outer wall remain. The Peace Memorial Park is just near the Dome. The park consists of Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum and a series of sculptures and other elements based on the theme of peace, wishing that the world will be at peace forever.

2. Mitaki Temple

Mitaki Temple, tucked away in the dense forests on a hill, is a good place to go in July, which enables you to escape from the crowded, busy and hot city. In Hiroshima, the Fireworks Festival, a famous summer event, is celebrated in many places from late July to mid-August. During the celebrations, thousands or even tens of thousands of fireworks are set off, illuminating the night sky. 


4. Kangen-sai Festival

Kangen-sai Festival, or the Orchestra Festival, is a show recalling the heyday of Japanese aristocratic culture staged at Itsukushima Shrine, one of the three most famous scenic spots in Japan. The ceremony usually begins in the afternoon with various activities. Then, at night, the busiest time of the ceremony, bonfires are lit, and rituals are performed while orchestral music is played on the decorated boat. The holding time is every June 17 of the lunar calendar of Japan, correspondingly, in 2025, it will be in late July in the Gregorian calendar.
