Kathmandu Valley:

It is a wonderful land full of unique religious heritages like Hindu and Buddhist temples. There are three main cities here: Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Patan, which are the must-go places for any tourists.

As the capital of Nepal, Kathmandu is the gateway to Tibet in China and India. Therefore, Hinduism, Tibetan Buddhism, and Lamaism gather here and numerous temples were built in the city. It is famed as “a city of temples”. You should not miss Swayambhunath Stupa located in the west of Kathmandu with a history of 2,500 years. The base of the tower has five floors, each of which has a different shape, symbolizing “land, wind, water, fire and the essence of life”.

Patan is located 5 kilometers (3 miles) south of Kathmandu and was founded around 298 AD. It is the oldest city in Nepal and was the commercial center of the ancient Kathmandu Valley. The whole city is designed according to the shape of a Buddhist prayer wheel and is distributed radially to the four directions.

Bhaktapur is about 12 kilometers (7miles) east of Kathmandu. In the 13th century, the Mala Dynasty was set here, leaving many cultural relics. It is also the birthplace of medieval Nepalese art and architecture.

All these cities were greatly damaged in the 2015 earthquake and the repairing work is still going on.

Lumbini:

It is a Buddhism holy land known as the “hometown of Buddha”. People can go to the Maya Devi Temple, which is located in the center of the Lumbini Garden to commemorate the mother of Buddha Sakyamuni.
