Vietnam Weather in June

In June, Vietnam experiences frequent rain, intense heat and occasional typhoons, making it less ideal for travel.

Sweltering Heat in Most Areas

In June, most parts of Vietnam are quite hot.

For example, in Hanoi, a famous travel destination in the north, daytime highs typically range from 32 to 36 degrees Celsius (90 to 97 degrees Fahrenheit), with extreme cases reaching up to 42℃ (108℉). Under such conditions, asphalt roads may appear nearly molten, and despite the use of umbrellas for shade, radiant heat wraps around the body like a damp towel, resulting in profuse sweating even after short periods of walking outside. Even at night, the lows are between 26 and 30℃ (79 to 86℉), which means that if you want to sleep comfortably, you must have a fan or air conditioner.

Fortunately, Vietnam still offers a few favorable highland destinations for escaping the summer heat. In the north, Sapa enjoys a cooler climate with temperatures ranging from 25 to 32℃ (77 to 90℉). A walk in the mountains accompanied by a cool breeze dispels all the heat and discomfort. In the south, Da Lat’s nighttime lows range from 26 - 28℃ (79 - 82℉), and the daytime highs hover around 32 - 34℃ (90 - 93℉). Whether you’re hiking or enjoying the floral landscapes, the climate ensures a relatively comfortable experience without the annoyance of profuse sweat.

High Precipitation & Typhoon Season Kicks off

Average precipitation: 213mm from 14 rainy days

The rainy season brings about more frequent and prolonged rainfall, ranking June among the months with the highest rainfall year-round.

In Ho Chi Minh City, for instance, June records a total rainfall of 312 mm on average, with approximately 20 days experiencing precipitation. During your trip, it’s very likely that you will encounter one or two short showers every day. Also, the rain here is not only heavy, but also comes with startling suddenness. One moment the sun is shining brightly, and the next, pea-sized raindrops pour down abruptly. Within seconds, puddles form on the pavement, leaving you trapped in a coffee shop before you have a chance to respond. However, the rain does not last long, and it can bring a brief coolness that relieves you from the sweltering heat.

What’s more, June marks the beginning of the typhoon season, during which typhoon activities are not yet intense. In the past five years, only two typhoons have been recorded in this month. However, once they strike, they can cause extremely heavy precipitation.

For example, Typhoon “Butterfly” in June 2025 brought over 800 mm of precipitation to Hue in a single day, more than twice the annual rainfall of Los Angeles. As a result, flights and ferries were cancelled, and water activities were also suspended. Fortunately, the impact area of typhoons is relatively small and the duration is short. By paying attention to weather forecasts in advance and avoiding the typhoon-affected period, the disruption to your itinerary can be minimized to the greatest extent.

Packing List for Visiting Vietnam in June

Clothes: Due to the high temperature and humidity, it is recommended to bring quick-drying and breathable clothes, such as T-shirts, strappy tops, light trousers, shorts, dresses and skirts. Considering the coolness from air conditioners and strong ultraviolet rays, a long-sleeved shirt or sun-protective clothing is also needed.

Shoes: Anti-slip sneakers, sports sandals or water-wading hiking shoes are optimal for going out in rainy June, while flip flops are recommended on beaches.

Others: Mosquito repellent, umbrellas, raincoats, parasols, sunscreen, sunhats, sunglasses.

Vietnam Travel Highlights in June

Double Rainbows

In June, after the rain stops, the sky often clears up quickly, creating favorable conditions for the formation of double rainbows. For instance, in Ho Chi Minh City, if you are lucky, you can witness huge double rainbows spanning both banks of the Saigon River, which is a romantic experience exclusive to June.

Cheap & Sweat Tropical Fruits

June marks the ripening season for many tropical fruits, during which they reach their peak sweetness and optimal quality. Additionally, market prices almost reach their annual low during this period. You can enjoy durian, a distinctive Southeast Asian fruit, at a low price of approximately 50,000 VND/kg (1.9 USD/kg).

Tips for Visiting Vietnam in June 2026

1. Pay attention to the weather forecast in advance and try to avoid the typhoon period to prevent your itinerary from being disrupted.

2. When traveling, be sure to carry a wind-resistant umbrella or raincoat just in case. If the wind and rain are too strong, such protection may be limited in effect, so it is recommended to stay in your hotel or seek a temporary shelter until the weather conditions improve.

3. It’s particularly difficult to hail a taxi on rainy days. If you need a car, it’s recommended to make a reservation in advance and be prepared for a significant increase in price.

4. After the rain, when going out, you need to detour waterlogged sections such as Nguyen Van Linh and Hoang Van Thu roads in Ho Chi Minh City. If you accidentally encounter water accumulation, be cautious of possible hidden potholes or manhole covers beneath the water to avoid accidents.
