In November, Vietnam enters its most comfortable period of the year: the north gradually cools down, offering a pleasant sensation; the south remains warm but not scorching, free from the oppressive heat. In addition, rainfall significantly decreases, with no prolonged and widespread downpours, which hardly affects the travel pace.

Cool North vs. Mildly Hot South

In November, weather conditions in the northern and southern parts of Vietnam are completely different.

The north is now fully presenting an autumn scene, characterized by an overall cool and pleasant climate. For instance, in Hanoi, the highest temperature ranges only between 20 and 29 degrees Celsius (68 to 84 degrees Fahrenheit), and the lowest temperature remains stable at 15 to 22℃ (59 to 72℉). When exposed to direct sunlight, there is a mild warmth; but once you step into the shade, you feel instantly refreshed. If a gentle breeze caresses your face, you might even be tempted to put on a light jacket. There is no sense of stuffiness at all, making it very suitable for travel.

In the south, the summer atmosphere prevails, but the unbearable heat is scarcely discernible. In Ho Chi Minh City, for example, the daytime highs are 28 - 33℃ (82 - 91℉), and the nighttime lows are 22 - 26℃ (72 - 79℉). Occasionally, the temperature may reach around 36℃ (97℉) at noon, causing you to sweat after walking a few steps. Fortunately, the early mornings and evenings are refreshing and comfortable; strolling through the streets with an iced coconut water in hand is both pleasant and cooling.

In northern cities such as Hanoi, the strong convective weather weakens in November, resulting in a significant reduction in rainfall: the average monthly rainfall is only 43 mm, with 6 rainy days, and most of the rain is sporadic light rain. A gentle breeze carrying fine raindrops may slightly dampen your hair, but it basically does not affect your travel. If you enjoy the rain scenery, the Hoan Kiem Lake shrouded in a light mist is quite worth experiencing.

In the south, the dry season has just arrived. Due to the dominance of tropical marine air masses, brief showers may still occur; however, both the intensity and frequency have greatly diminished. In Ho Chi Minh City, for example, the average monthly rainfall has dropped to 116 mm, with 12 rainy days. The rain mostly occurs in the afternoon, coming suddenly, with raindrops falling like soybeans. At this time, it’s better to duck into a roadside shop to rest and enjoy some local snacks and drinks. When the rain stops soon after, the ground often dries quickly, hardly hindering your journey.

Typhoon Attack

In November, Vietnam is still in the typhoon season, and tropical cyclones are prone to cause extreme rainfall. Notably, in 2025, Da Nang, affected by the lingering effects of a typhoon, experienced rainfall exceeding 1,000 mm in a single day. This led to widespread flooding of residential areas, waterlogging in agricultural fields, and severely disrupted transportation, necessitating boat in some locations.
