Balmy Temperature

Average Temperature: 11-20℃ (52-68℉)
In April, the overall temperature becomes comfortably mild. You feel warm during the day: high temperature often ranges from 15-20℃ (59-68℉) at the beginning of the month; by the end of the month, maximum temperature can reach 25℃ (77℉) or more. In contrast, early mornings and nights get a tad cooler, with some days witnessing a temperature drop of over 10℃ (50℉) compared with daytime highs.

However, temperature may decline by 5℃ (41℉) or so on some cloudy and rainy days. And if the wind blows, it becomes colder. You may even need to wear a light down coat.

Not Very Much Yet Not Low Rainfall

Average Humidity: approximately 70%

Light and moderate rain account for the most, but there may be 1-3 days of heavy rain over the month. The probability of rain lasting long, like for half a day is comparatively high. Brief showers are also possible; on some days, you may experience two or more showers within a single day. Considering a variety of rainfall, if you plan to come here in April of 2026, bring along an umbrella or a raincoat.

Sunset Time: 18:09 - 18:33
Average Sunshine Hours: about 6 hours/day

In April, you can enjoy extended daylength from 12 hours 33 minutes to 13 hours 35 minutes, which gives you plenty of time for thorough explorations. Some scenic sites also extend their opening hours. For instance, Fujisan Hongu Sengen-taisha Shrine, its opening hours are adjusted to 5:00 - 20:00 in April, which was previously 5:30 - 19:30 in October to March.

The duration of sunshine is relatively abundant, and UV rays get stronger with the UV index climbing to 8 by the end of the month. So, it’s better to apply SPF 30+ sunscreen and wear sunglasses during your outdoor visit on sunny days.

What to Wear in Shizuoka in April

Shizuoka April Clothes
Upper Clothing: A long sleeve shirt plus a jacket is enough in April. If your itinerary includes Miho no Matsubara and Mount Omuro, it’s advised to bring a hat with string and a scarf or a cotton vest, since strong winds in these places leads to the lower apparent temperature.

Bottom Clothing: Jeans and sweatpants are both fine to cope with the Shizuoka’s climate in April. If females would like to wear long dresses, pair them with thin leggings.

Footwear: Considering large areas of tourist attractions in Shizuoka, well-fitting sneakers are the best. Plus, they’re preferably made of breathable leather, for they are not only water-resistant but also easy to be cleaned after walking outside on rainy days.
