What to Wear and Take in October
Clothes and Shoes: As the temperature difference in a day is big, you’d better prepare multiple layers of clothes, so as to add and remove them at any time conveniently. It is recommended to bring as many as basic tank tops, T-shirts and long-sleeved shirts because it’s not convenient to wash clothes during trips. And you should take a windbreaker, a fleece coat, or even a down jacket. Thin long pants and quick-drying trousers would be good.
Wear light and comfy footwear such as walking shoes, sneakers and short boots during your safari, and a pair of slippers will make you comfortable during the long-time staying in the off-road vehicle.
Accessories: Since October is gradually getting into the rainy season, rain gear is a must. Sunglasses, a thin hat, cold medicine and moisturizing products are all needed. And to protect you from the dust, take as many masks as you can.
Reasons for Travelling to Kenya in October
Not Crowded: October is the off-season for tourism, so the attractions will not be crowded.
Spend Less: Costs for air tickets and hotels are reduced during this period, making it a more cost-effective month.
Wide Vision: Just getting into the rainy season, the vegetation isn’t that lush yet, so animals are easier to spot, which is perfect for outdoor activities and wildlife watching.

1. Amboseli National Park
Amboseli National Park is definitely a must-go in Kenya and can be visited all year round, but it’s not crowded in October, which makes it a better time. October is also one of the months with the largest gathering of animals in Amboseli. In addition to the most famous elephants, there are dozens of giraffes, baboons, antelopes, rhinos, zebras, etc. You can get on safari and travel through grasslands, rivers and deserts to see these wild animals. The snow-capped Mount Kilimanjaro can also be taken in here.

If you want to see the original landform of Africa, Aberdare National Park, the so-called “Home of God”, is the place to go. It is located in the central plateau of Kenya. There are cliffs, deep valleys, waterfalls, plains, and mountains. You can see deer and peacocks on the lawn, elephants eating and playing by the pool and more. It is also home to more than 250 species of birds and offers views of Mount Kenya.
Tip: You’re so recommended to experience the Ark Hotel here, the world’s first treetop hotel. Here, you can see many animals wondering outside just through the window of your room.
