Considering that the temperature difference between daytime and nighttime is large, when you have the whole day trip, it is recommended to bring a hat and a thick coat for the early morning and late night.

What to Wear in April in Tokyo?

Traveling to Tokyo in April, clothes should be light and comfortable. But taking in account the large temperature difference between morning and evening, visitors need a thick coat to avoid getting a cold.

Girls

Tops: Gils can choose long dress or long sleeve clothes to be the inner wear. For outerwear, a thick outdoor jacket is needed in cooler mornings and evenings. In warmer daytime, a regular jacket is basically enough.

Bottoms & shoes: If you plan to wear long dress, a pair of stockings is necessary to prevent your legs from feeling cold. Besides, jeans and sweatpants are good choices too. For shoes, girls can choose to wear sneakers or short boots.


Boys

Tops: A thick overcoat or outdoor jacket is necessary in cooler time. A hoodie with a shirt inside can adapt to the weather in most of the time.
Bottoms & shoes: Jeans are good to cope with the pleasing weather. This is a month which is suitable for outings and sightseeing. For long walks outdoors, sneakers must be your best choice.

Accessories: In some windy days, a scarf can help you feel warm and prevent you from getting cold. 
Special Recommendation: Sakura season is the best time to experience the kimono, Japanese traditional clothing. With many kimono rental shops in Tokyo and it is pretty convenient for you to rent one. If you want to take pictures with sakura, a kimono can make it better.

In early April, the sakura is in full bloom and Mekurokawa River and Chidorigafuchi-ryokudo Walkway are among the best places to appreciate the flowers. The Sakura Festival are held for visitors to enjoy more fun.

1. Meguro-gawa River

In Nakameguro Sakura Festival at a section of Meguro River (Meguro-gawa), visitors can appreciate 800 sakura trees blooming at the same time and there is a marvelous lighting activity at night, which makes it the most popular sakura shooting location. The Festival is usually held in late March or early April. For example, in 2025, it was held in March 29th - 30th. You can take it as a reference for year 2026.

2. Chidorigafuchi-ryokudo Walkway

The total length of Chidorigafuchi-ryokudo Walkway is about 700 meters (766 yards) and there are about 260 sakura trees on both sides of the river. In Chiyoda Sakura Festival (March 28th - April 8th, 2025), visitors can rent a boat from Chidori-ga-fuchi boat ground. Boating on the water while admiring the sakura can be a unique experience in your Tokyo trip.

3. Mount Fuji

When traveling to Japan, Mount Fuji is definitely a must-see attraction. Especially in April, you can enjoy the scenery of Mount Fuji together with the sakura. The Arakurayama Sengen Park and Lake Kawaguchi are two most popular places to appreciate the Mount Fuji and sakura. No matter you appreciate the scenery from which angle, the beautiful scenery can never let you down. What should call your attention is, the blooming period is about one week later than in Tokyo downtown.
