Generally speaking, the weather in October in Tokyo is cool and pleasant. It is still a little bit hot in early October probably. In past years, the temperature could be high as 32℃ (89.6℉) during the first days of October. After, it becomes mild and really suitable to go for a trip, while the duration of daytime gradually gets shorter and shorter than before. In late October, the temperature drops more and you may feel a little bit cold, especially when there is a cold wave from the north. The daytime temperature can be 26℃ (78.8℉) at the highest, while the lowest temperature can decrease down to 8-10 degrees Celsius (46.4-50℉) in late October. Although the daytime temperature is quite pleasant, the temperature may drop very sharply after the sun sets and you may need an additional thick coat while travelling outdoors.

The temperature in downtown area is higher than in the suburban area, so remember to put on more clothes if you go hiking in the surrounding mountainous areas. Mitake is 900m (2,952.8 ft) high so the temperature here is lower than other places, which makes it the earliest place for red leaves in Tokyo. The red leaves cover all over the mountains, which is an unmissable scene for you. At the foot of Mt. Mitake lies the Mitake Valley along Tama River.
