August is the hottest month in Tokyo as a whole. The temperature can be as high as 38°C (100.4°F) during the day. In extreme year, it can be higher than 39°C (102.2°F). Usually, the low temperature at night is no less than 20°C (68°F), while sometimes it drops to about 18°C (64.4°F) perhaps. To prevent getting heatstroke, it is advisable to drink enough water and choose to travel to some shady places.

August is not really a rainy month, but the rainfall is considerable in Tokyo. There are some rainstorms or thundershowers on several days, and it’s no longer continuous light rain. Koenji Awa-odori Festival is the largest Awa-odori event in Tokyo, on the last weekend of August every year, in 2025 which means 30th and 31st.
