The Kita City Fireworks Show is held in Arakawa riverbank in late September, on Sep. 27th 2025. The most special point of it is its different themes every year. It sets off fireworks based on featured themes together with various wonderful performances. Fireworks are also precisely synchronized with live music and the show is a feast for your eyes and ears.

The Chofu’s Autumn Fireworks Show by Tama River is also worth-seeing, on Sep. 20th 2025. With approximately 10,000 fireworks, it is pretty lively with unique music of Chofu and some familiar pieces in the same time. What’s more, there are also a wide variety of viewing seats for people to choose from, such as double seats for two people and table seats for four people.

2. Ryogoku Kokugikan - Grand Sumo Tournament

September is just the time to watch the professional sumo wrestling tournament at Ryogoku Kokugikan, Tokyo. In 2025, the games will last from Sept 14th to 28th. If interested in the national sport in Japan, you can book a ticket in advance and watch wrestling matches one day on your journey in Tokyo. It’s a fresh experience to learn the rituals and rules of sumo, the diet of sumo wrestlers and more there.

3. Showa Memorial Park

Besides the lively fireworks shows, there are also some quiet places for visitors to enjoy the leisure time. Since early September, the Showa Memorial Park, or called Showa Kinen Park, holds Cosmos Festival in the western suburb of Tokyo. It was from Sep. 14th to Oct. 20th in 2024, while the time in 2025 hasn’t been determined yet. There is a cosmos field of 20,000 square meters and 4.4 million cosmos plants in total, which is the largest cosmos field in Tokyo. During the festival, visitors can also experience the cosmos picking activity and many other cultural activities.
