February witnesses a slight increase in temperatures, but Olgii weather in February remains freezing cold. However, if you are free to visit Olgii only in February 2027, there do exist some special activities you might be interested in. 

Mongolian Lunar New Year, also known as the White Festival (Tsagaan Sar), falls on February 7, 2027. Visitors can participate in the celebration activities to experience the festive atmosphere, for example the Fire Worship Ceremony and Cultural Performances like dancing and singing. Besides, you can go to the thickly frozen Khovd River for ice-fishing and sleighing. 

Tips for Dressing in February in Olgii

Upper body: You can wear soft bottoming T-shirts for inner layer and put on padded shirts, thick hoodies or heavy sweaters for the second one. The high-top ones are more preferred to prevent heat loss from neck. In terms of outer layer, wind resistance is the most important function. 3-in-1 windbreakers, mink coats and hard-shell down coats are all good choices. 

Lower body: It is a good match to wear woolen long johns with windproof outer trousers, for example fleece-lined jacket pants, padded jeans even down pants. Make sure their bottoms are tight to avoid cold air getting in.

Shoes: You are suggested to choose non-slippery shoes from fleece-lined walking boots, padded sport shoes, and snow boots when conducting ice and snow activities. As feet are susceptible to coldness, you should wear woolen socks or prepare some self-heating insoles. 

Others: Waterproof gloves are necessary for playing in snow or on frozen river. Thick hats are also very important especially when strong winds blow. Prepare masks or heavy scarves to keep your face warm. It is recommended to bring warm pastes and stick them on your waist and back for more heat. Also, remember to pack up moisturizing products to protect your skin from dryness. 

Tips for Visiting Olgii in February

1. The date of White Festival is the first day of lunar January, so it varies every year in solar calendar, probably at the end of January or the beginning of March. If you visit Mongolia primarily for this festival, check its specific date of that year and plan your travel accordingly.
 
2. During White Festival in 2027, Olgii residents will enjoy their holidays from February 7 to 9. Some local restaurants may be closed or their opening time be shortened. You had better make a phone call to know the opening situation before departure for it.
