Olgii Weather in July

Despite of the highest temperatures of the year, Olgii weather in July, instead of scorching hot, is pleasantly warm in most time. The long sunlight hours provide visitors a generally sunny condition but at the same time bring a very high UV index. The rainy season of Olgii also peaks in this month, which normally doesn’t disrupt your itinerary, though. More importantly, small-scaled Naadam Fair is held in July and the natural scenery in Olgii also welcomes its prime. Overall, July belongs to the best time to make an Olgii trip.

Highest Temperatures Year Round, But Not Burning Hot

As the middle month of summer, July experiences the highest temperatures of the year, seeing the daytime high degrees usually ranging from 22 to 28 degrees Celsius (72 - 82 degrees Fahrenheit) and the low values from 13 to 18°C (55 - 64°F). So, the weather of Olgii in July can be described as warm during daytime; it is also cozy for outdoor activities at nighttime. Occasionally, the daily highs hover around 32°C (90°F) and even the night lows reach 24°C (75°F). It is only under this extreme situation that you might be drenched in sweat after conducting long-time activities under sunshine. In most time, you feel no burning hot and staying in shady places for several minutes could stop your sweating and cool yourself down.

Peak Rainy Season, But Low Rainfall in Total

Though during the peak rainy season, Olgii receives an average rainfall of only 39 mm (1.54 in) in July. It is actually rather low, compared with other worldwide destinations like Beijing (152 mm in July) and New York (104 mm). Among the averagely 12 rainy days, the precipitation often falls as drizzles and showers so that you can continue your sightseeing with raingear. Thunderstorm and downpour might occur as well. But good news is that they are very occasional and tend to last for a very short time perhaps dozens of minutes. To spend this period, you can find a local shop or restaurant if you are in urban city or have a rest in the car when visiting distant suburbs.

Long Sunlight Hours & Highest UV Index

There is a large difference in daylength between early July and the end. At the beginning, the sun rises at 04:58 and sets at 21:09, thus bringing the daytime of around 16 hours; it decreases to about 15 hours by the end of July with later sunrise at 05:29 and earlier sunset at 20:43. However, visitors still have long enough daytime for day activities. Besides, their most visits are bathed in sunshine because the average sunlight duration keeps as long as 10 hours per day. However, in view of the very high UV index of 8, you need to take both physical and chemical sun-protective measures to prevent sunburnt and heatstroke especially around midday.

Tips for Dressing in July in Olgii

Dressing in Olgii in July
Upper body: It is suggested to choose tops of light colors and breathable materials like cotton, flax and chiffon. You can wear T-shirts with sunproof sleeves or sunscreen coats. Long-sleeved thin shirts are also good choices. Then, prepare thicker clothes for night outings, such as denim jackets, knit wear, leather coats and trench coats.

Lower body: Loose jeans and thin sweatpants suit many situations as well as temperatures in most time. If you prefer shorts or dress, wear them only in urban areas or when taking pictures since it is inconvenient to ride horses or play on the grassland.

Shoes: The shoes should be light-weight, breathable and comfortable; otherwise, you feel your feet stuffy and painful after trudging for a long time. Water-resistant sneakers are most recommended; if normal ones, you’d better also pack rainproof shoe covers.

Others: Wear sunglasses and sunhats to protect your eyes and skin from strong sunshine, which also helps you to take nice pictures. Sunblock should also be carried for further protection. Raingear like umbrellas, raincoats or rainboots can help you continue the visit when it rains lightly. Also, you should bring mosquito repellent sprays or pastes to avoid bug stings.

Tips for Visiting Olgii in July

1. July welcomes the largest number of visitors throughout the year and Mongolia residents also spend their 5-day holidays in middle July. To enjoy a lower travel cost, you had better make reservations on flights, accommodations as well as attraction and activity tickets as early as possible.

2. Since Kazak people take the majority of local residents in Olgii, Naadam Fair there is limited to a small scale, even might be cancelled in some years. If you are especially interested in this festival, it is suggested to visit Ulaanbaatar to engage in the large-scale national Naadam Fair which is celebrated on July 11 to 15, 2026 before or after your Olgii trip.
