Not Suggested to Visit Olgii in January

Extremely low temperature is the most challenging factor for travelling there. The severely cold climate of Olgii in January makes you unwilling to step out of the door, let alone conducting visits outside for a long time. In mountain and lake areas, you have no choice but to live in the ger fueled by woods and cow dungs, which is not warm enough. You might be awakened by coldness even covered with four quilts.

In terms of scenery, except for some cultural scenic spots, urban Olgii presents only monotonous snow-covered landscape. It takes a long drive to appreciate the highlights of Olgii in suburbs, which is dangerous since the roads are usually frozen and fairly slippery in January. Meanwhile, it costs much more time than usual, thus making the already insufficient daytime less available.

However, if you have to or insist to visit Olgii in January 2027, please do read the following tips carefully to make full preparations.

Tips for Dressing in January in Olgii

Upper body: Thermal underwear for base layer should be high-top and quick-dry to preserve heat. For middle layer, heavy sweaters, fleece shirts or padded hoodies are necessary, but still not warm enough alone, so put on thin down vests or coats which are not bulky. Windproof long down coats are the top choices for outer layer to resist winds. It would be better if they have hoods to add protection on your head and ears.

Lower body: Thick long johns are indispensable under such low temperatures. Then, choose from fleece-lined jeans, padded jacket pants and down trousers for windproof layer. Woolen knee pads should be prepared since the knees are very sensible to coldness.

Shoes: It is suggested to wear fleece-lined walking boots and snow boots as most of them have anti-slippery soles. Casual padded sneakers are also acceptable if with ice cleats.

Others: Woolen hats, large scarves and thick gloves should be worn to protect the largely exposed skin from cold injury. Protective glasses are also useful to avoid eye discomfort in the vast expanse of whiteness. A portable small humidifier works well to deal with the dry climate. Moreover, be sure to pack skin-care products such as body oil, hand cream and lip pomades.
