Madagascar Festivals in June:

1. National Day

The National Day of Madagascar will fall on June 26th. This is the day they celebrate their independence from France in 1960. On that day, its capital, Antananarivo, will hold a military parade in Barea Mahamasina Stadium. If you plan to come to Antananarivo in June 2025, remember to have a look.
 

2. Famadihana

Famadihana is a Malagasy traditional festival honoring the dead ancestors and is mainly held in Antananarivo and its neighboring area. People will take the dead body out of the tomb, clean it, and cover it with a new shroud. Then they’ll lift the body up to their heads and carry it around. At last, they’ll bury the body back in the tomb. Madagascar people believe this behavior is a way to enshrine the dead and ask for their blessings. Actually, the exact date of Famadihana is not fixed, but it usually starts in the dry months like June.
